AI NEWS: The “Godmother of AI” just launched World Labs, teaching AI to create and understand 3D worlds. Plus, more developments from OpenAI, Tencent, Runway, Google, and Meta. Here’s everything that happened in AI over the weekend.
Fei-Fei Li announced a new startup
Fei-Fei Li announced a new startup, World Labs, to develop AI models capable of understanding and crafting 3D environments. Instead of focusing on LLMs, World Labs will build LWMs (Large World Models). This could revolutionize AR, VR, and robotics.
OpenAI o1 Model
OpenAI o1 is now smarter than most humans, according to the Norway Mensa IQ test It scored 120, 20 points higher than the average human and 30 points higher than other high-level AI models like Claude.
Also, Open-source does it again, creating a copycat OpenAI o1 model called g1, powered by Meta’s Llama-3.1 and Groq. Similar to OpenAI’s o1, it uses reasoning chains to solve problems, figuring out the strawberry problem ~70% of the time.
Tencent unveiled GameGen-O
Tencent unveiled GameGen-O, a groundbreaking AI model that generates open-world video games from text prompts. Trained on 4,000 hours of video game footage, it can create characters, environments, actions, and events. This video game is all AI-generated:
GameGen-O, the first diffusion transformer model tailored for the generation of open-world video games. This model facilitates high-quality, open-domain generation by simulating a wide array of game engine features, such as innovative characters, dynamic environments, complex actions, and diverse events. Additionally, it provides interactive controllability, thus allowing for the gameplay simulation.
Runway released Gen-3 Alpha Video
Speaking of insane video generation, Runway released Gen-3 Alpha Video to Video late Friday. It can transform any video you have into a completely new aesthetic or style in seconds. Check out these crazy examples:
News from Google
Google AI Studio just made it easier than ever to compare models and parameters. Its new ‘comparison mode’ shows side-by-side outputs for models like Gemini 1.5 Flash and Gemini 1.5 Pro.
Cursor AI
